What is Based Food?
Vegan baking mixes made by a family in Belfast. Add one ingredient and you get pancakes, French toast, brownies and cookies that taste like the ones you grew up with. The artwork on every pack is hand-drawn by a local tattoo artist.
Will it really taste like the real thing?
That's the whole point. We built these so you'd never know they were vegan. The French toast even tastes eggy, thanks to kala namak, a volcanic black salt that does just what its name suggests. Most people are genuinely surprised.
What do I need to add, and how hard is it?
One thing: your favourite m*lk or butt*r, depending on the mix. Whisk, then pan or oven. A pack makes a proper batch (the French Toast does around 10 to 12 slices, 3 to 4 servings), so a bundle keeps you going for weeks.
Is your packaging recyclable?
Yes, pouches and all. Although who'd want to bin artwork this good?

Well very pleasantly impressed with this.. I have tried making French toast or yummy bread, as i called it as a child, a few times since going vegan many years ago.. & i can honestly say this is it! It's exactly as i remember it from my childhood & early years! & exceptionally easy to make. Iv chosen to use a little at a time & found 30g of the mix & 80ml of oat milk was perfect for 3 slices! Yummy bread indeed. Will be buying more. Guess I'll be trying the other mixes as well!

Currently writing this review halfway through eating because I'm so happy of how nice this tastes, been missing French toast since going vegan and this is by far the best one I've tried! Used 44.6g and 100ml of oat milk and 2 slices of bread, perfect amount.
There are times I just don’t feel like measuring things out or I don’t have ingredients. Or maybe I just want a fun and easy activity with tasty results. Finding a vegan alternative is a mission. Look at this packaging! We love it. Very impressed with dump, whisk, bake, enjoy. I added the sprinkles. Great taste. Excellent texture. Definitely will restock my cupboard.
Very pleased with this pancake mix. I've been mixing with Koko coconut-based milk which works a treat for light and fluffy. Handful of raisins and dried cranberries mix in the pan while cooking and honey to serve 👌

My daughter is anaphylactic to egg and anything with egg in it , also a celiac , This stuff is amazing it makes her bead taste great , it’s so easy to make ( I use a small blender to mix) tastes and smells like egg , I’ve also made omelette with it !

Used for the first time last week, very impressed just like how I remember French toast to be. Will definitely buy again
